Have you ever thought about what it might be like to live in a work of art? How about on a yacht; have you ever fancied living on one of the world’s great sailing vessels surrounded by the finest woodwork humans are capable of? What if I were to tell you that both of those experiences are available. Oh yes, this fantasy place is real and it’s located on Maui, America’s paradise on earth. Not only is this unbelievable masterpiece on Maui, but it’s an oceanfront place with 180 degree views, a white sandy beach next door and within sight of the world’s best windsurfing spot, the legendary Ho’okipa Beach. Welcome to Kuau Point.

The owner/builder sat for hours in a bucket suspended 2 stories in the air on the property prior to construction deciding what he wanted to see and what should be invisible. The result is a home whose attention to detail and quality construction cannot be duplicated today for any amount of money.

From the Rolls Royce leather of the custom made banquettes around the hand crafted Madagascar Ebony dining area table with rollers for the Lazy Susan supplied by NASA to the airplane canopy tracks that are used as sliders for the laundry room doors, nothing is left to chance in this magnificent live-in sculpture.

If it’s quality you’re seeking, go no further. It’s not hyperbole to say that there is no place where the attention to detail has been matched with an owner’s resources to be able to allow for the time and expertise to produce a truly one-of-a-kind residence. The interiors of every cabinet, closet, custom made built-in dresser, storage area and drawer are 100% koa; one of Hawaii’s most revered and sought after woods for its beautiful finish, gorgeous grain and unsurpassed durability.

The new owner will proudly show guests and visitors the custom designed doors at every entrance, room, closet and cabinet. Not one door is the same. Every door in the home took up to six months to complete. One will be struck at how the grains are matched and the beauty of the intricacies of the furniture making.

Yes, furniture making. All of the massed produced things in other homes are one-of-a-kind at Kuau Point. The home feels like the finest piece of furniture one has ever seen. Besides koa, ohia and ebony the house also has teak, curly ironwood and olive.

There is not a 90-degree angle in the house. The curved woodwork was achieved by bending the wood like Stradivarius, however this wood was ten times thicker than any violin he ever built.

Among the innumerable features of Kuau Point, are the six eight foot ohia trees on the ground floor which are bolted to the foundation and support six 19 foot pine trees on the upper level.

The owner has such an aesthetic sense, that he designed each of the areas in the great room like a theater. Tiered, so the person preparing a meal of fresh fish caught in the bay in home’s backyard is able to take in the mighty Pacific while those in the Italian leather custom built couch in the living area can enjoy the view without getting in anyone’s way.

At just under 2,500 sq. ft. of living space the home is comfortable without being overwhelming. With 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths it’s a perfect place for one who loves quality and is seeking the finest.

The owner loved the ocean and that is apparent in the nautical details the master boat builders he employed to create this living work of art produced. When he was faced with the dilemma of the interior bedroom he decided to provide it with its own water feature; one of three man-made waterfalls on the property. The bedroom waterfall can even be programmed like an alarm clock to wake one to the sound of rushing water.

The office area in the great room is supplied with a custom built semicircular desk from which any captain of business will feel at home and in command.

If the quality of this place were not enough of a selling point, then the security it offers should seal the deal. This home is the sturdiest in the state of Hawaii. Built to withstand a hurricane with sustained winds of 170 m.p.h., the owner commissioned a mathematician in California to prepare the calculations which were literally book length and his architect, William Woodkey, then translated them into plans for construction.

In creating the state’s most indestructible home, it was necessary to excavate the entire lot 20 to 25 feet deep. Then, when the hole was filled in, the owner wanted 100% compaction so as to insure that the house would be solid as a rock. Such a level of compaction required an engineer be flown in from Honolulu, collect soil samples for every 2 inches of compaction and then the samples were sent back to Honolulu to examine the compaction.

The home sits on one of the most beautiful quarter acres in all of paradise. The landscaping respects the Japanese ancestry of the area and one can lounge in the hammock in the gazebo while listening to the waterfall and enjoying the koi pond.

This home is without doubt one of the best oceanfront values on Maui today.

Price upon negotiation.
